Othello man sentenced to 6 years

SPOKANE - A man convicted of threatening to kill an Othello police officer has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Nicolas Romero-Rivera, 36, of Othello was sentenced to six years in prison and three years probation Dec. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. He was previously convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court records, Romero-Rivera was arrested on a felony warrant March 7, 2023, after threatening to kill an officer.

Othello police executed a search warrant at his 55 N. 10th Ave. apartment, records show. During the search, they located a stolen AR-15, a 1911 Colt .45 pistol, ammunition and multiple loaded magazines.

The Othello had previously been reported stolen from an Othello home.

Police and the U.S. Marshals Service investigated the case, records show.

Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents from the Spokane office assisted with the case.

Romero-Rivera has a lengthy criminal history.

Following an October 2022 domestic violence incident, he was sought by police for threatening his girlfriend with a sawed-off shotgun.

At that time, he was also wanted on an active felony warrant for a previous crime.
