Longsdorff joins Carnegie Library

Hello, my name is Tiffanie Longsdorff, and I am the new Library Assistant #1. I grew up in sunny California but made the move to Washington in the fall of 2010 to be closer to my family. We settled in Ritzville in 2012 and have lived here ever since.

When I arrived in Ritzville 12 years ago, I visited the Carnegie Library for the first time. As an avid reader, I wanted my toddler to have the same opportunity to discover the joy of reading. I was immediately enchanted by the library's quiet charm, the friendliness of the staff, and the comforting scent of books. This experience marked the beginning of my love affair with the Ritzville Carnegie Library. When a position opened this summer, I eagerly applied for it. Over the past three months, I have met so many wonderful members of the community and have become part of an amazing team dedicated to helping the library thrive and providing the community with a diverse range of enrichment opportunities.

Every year, our unique and vibrant community comes together to celebrate the cherished tradition of lighting the town's Christmas tree, filling the air with joy and anticipation. This year's celebration was delightful. Families gathered in the library's basement to create ornaments, cards, and snowflakes. At 5:30 PM, everyone went outside to see the tree lights spring to life and sing carols in unison. Even Santa made a special appearance for the festivities.

After the lighting ceremony, community members, young and old, returned to the basement for cocoa and cookies provided by the Friends of the Library. With full tummies and happy hearts, people gathered to snack and converse, while the giggles of children echoed throughout the room. To call this event a success would be an understatement. I would be remiss not to acknowledge the hard work of the Library staff, the Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Library, and all the community members who make events like these possible. Here's to a bright and Happy New Year!
