Broncos volleyball season ends

With 3-2 win, Colfax upsets Lind-Ritzville

CHENEY - The Lind-Ritzville-Sprague volleyball season came to an unexpected, abrupt end Nov. 7 at the Northeast 2B District 6 tournament at Cheney High School.

The No. 3-seeded Bronco girls (12-6), opened the tournament Nov. 5 at Freeman High School by sweeping Northwest Christian (Colbert), 3-0, to advance to the semifinals against top-seeded Freeman, setting up their third time the two 2023 state runners-up faced off.

Like their previous two games, the Scotties swept the Broncos. The Scotties (17-2) advanced to the title game; the Broncos dropped to the consolation rounds, where they had to win to stay in.

District play paused for a day, before moving from Freeman to Cheney for the final rounds.

The Broncos faced perennial volleyball powerhouse, Colfax (9-11).

Lind-Ritzville topped the Broncos 3-0 and 3-2 in their first two meetings this season. But the third time was the charm for the Bulldogs, which left Cheney with a 3-2 upset knockout of the Broncos.

Individual statistics were not available for any of the district games.

In the final games, Freeman won the district title, sweeping Liberty (Spangle), 3-0, in the championship game.

Meanwhile, Colfax would advance to the third-place game, where the Bulldogs topped the Davenport Gorillas, 3-1.

Freeman, Liberty, Colfax and Davenport all advance to the state 2B tournament, which opens today, Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
