Commissioners advance jail, bridge work

Staff explains expected costs, grant options

RITZVILLE - Adams County commissioners met Oct. 8 and Nov. 5 to discuss a USDA grant of $2,600,000 for jail improvements.

DOH Associates has been selected for general architectural services to the county. Public Works Director Todd O'Brien will notify DOH of the grant funds available for jail improvements. A scope of work will be developed by DOH to determine pre-architectural priorities, and what factors construction on those priorities may trigger.

In other business Nov. 5, County Engineer Scott Yaeger briefed commissioners on the county's five-year transportation improvement plan, which includes the replacement, resurfacing or reconstruction of 16 bridges.

Work for nine of the bridges has already been funded, he said. The first priority is replacement of Bridge 411-3, the Sackman Road Bridge, at a project cost of $4,367,400. The work is scheduled for 2025-26.

He also discussed the Lind-Hatton Road Project No. 3.

Commissioner Jay Weise moved, Commissioner Mike Garza seconded a motion to approve and sign a contract and bond between Adams County and Culbert Construction, Inc. of Pasco for the Lind-Hatton Road No. 3 Project, CRP-191, for the bid price of $2,605,955.07.

The motion was carried unanimously.
