Scotties sweep Broncos, 3-0

RITZVILLE — In a battle of state runners-up, the Freeman girls volleyball team topped the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 31, on Senior Night in Gilson Gymnasium.

Set scores were 17-25, 16-25, 11-25.

The Freeman girls were the state Class 1A runners-up last year; the Broncos were runners up in state 2B.

Before the game started, the teams seniors were recognized with family members. This year’s seniors include:

• Madisyn Cameron, recognized with parents Mark and Christinia Cameron

• Addy Colbert, with her parents Adam and Becky Colbert

• Danika Cox, with her father Kurtis Cox and brother Connor Cox

• Temple Gefre, with mother Megan Wills, father Tyler Gefre and step-father Jae Gomez

• Liberty McClanathan, with parents Josh and Jennifer McClanathan

• Brooklyn Norton, with father J.R. Norton and step-mother Stephanie Dormaier

• Claire Wellsandt, with parents Chris and Holly Wellsandt

On the court, Saige Galbreath led the Broncos with 9 kills. Zoe Galbreath posted 9 digs, 9 assists and 1 block.

For the Scotties, Greta Van Gernet led with 10 kills.

Aspyn Reed had 17 digs, 5 aces and 4 blocks. Dakota Daines had 35 assists.

The match set the stage for Northeast 2B district play, which got under way Nov. 1 and 2, with Newport downing Upper Columbia Academy, 3-2, and Colfax sweeping St. George’s, 3-0.

After the newspaper went to press, district continued Nov. 5 in Davenport and Freeman.

Newport advanced to play Freeman the NE2B-North top seed; Colfax advanced to face Davenport the south league’s top seed.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was slated to play Northwest Christian (Colbert) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Freeman High School.

The winner will advance to the NE2B.
