Sumner held without bail in Pasco
RITZVILLE - A man who attempted to stab a local police officer is being held in the Franklin County Jail without bail.
Brian Jedediah Sumner, 45, is was booked into the jail Oct. 8 on three counts of first-degree assault, third-degree assault, obstructing a public servant, resisting arrest and felony eluding.
Court records show Sumner, who frequents the Sprague area, was apprehended in Spokane.
His arrest stems from an Oct. 5 domestic call.
Records show police were dispatched the intersection of Second and Lewis streets for a man reportedly hitting a woman. At the scene, police located Sumner and a woman, whose name has yet to be released.
Sumner allegedly tried to interfere with the police investigation, records show. When police attempted to arrest him, Sumner, who was armed with a knife, attempted to stab the officer.
Still armed, Sumner then allegedly put the knife against the woman's chest, records show. A resident intervened and helped encourage Sumner to move away from the woman.
Sumner then attempted to flee on foot, records show, noting police pursued and unsuccessfully attempted to use a TASER on him.
Sumner was able to get to his nearby vehicle and drive away, records show, noting he was able to lose the pursuing officer.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
On Oct. 8, Sumner was located and arrested in Spokane. Details of his arrest were not reported.
