Broncos fall short in 21-14 loss

CHEWELAH - A two-score, first-quarter deficit was too much for the Broncos to overcome Friday, Oct. 4, as they fell 21-14 to the Jenkins Cougars.

The Cougars opened scoring with a 21-yard pass from Noland Jeanneret to Miles Krausz for a first-quarter touchdown. The point-after failed, and Jenkins took a 6-0 lead.

Before the Broncos could put points on the board, a Lind-Ritzville/Sprague fumble was returned for a second TD by the Cougars. The hometown team added a 2-point conversion to take a 14-0 lead, which held through the end of the quarter.

In the quarter, Broncos senior Zach Klein scored on a 1-yard dive. Kicker Beau Fode added the extra point to narrow the margin to 14-7.

The score remained until the third-quarter, when senior running back Brody Boness broke loose on a 61-yard sprint to the endzone.

Fode added another PAT.

The quarter ended with the score tied at 14.

But the Cougars were not done scoring. And in the fourth quarter, Jeanneret hit Krausz for another TD, this time from 9 yards out. The PAT was good, and the Cougars held a 21-14 lead, and a 21-14 win.
