Othello woman makes honor roll

SPOKANE — An Othello woman has been named to the Spokane Community College honor roll for the summer quarter.

Cassandra Gonzalez-Garza was among students maintaining a 3.0 grade-point average or better during the quarter, the college announced Friday.

Gefre receives $25,000 scholarship

Ritzville — Miss Ritzville Temple Gefre has been awarded a $25,000 national scholarship.

The Horatio Alger Association selected her for the award honoring outstanding leaders who have already overcome adversity and planning to attend college.

“This honor celebrates Temple’s exceptional perseverance and commitment to education despite facing significant personal challenges,” spokeswoman Hailee Elko said. “The association uplifts students like Temple by providing them with financial resources and programming to support their academic careers.”

According to Elko, scholarship recipients are also given access to counseling, college-selection advisers and mentors.

Gefre, a senior at Lind-Ritzville High School, is the current Miss Ritzville and a student-athlete.
