Sprague Days set for this weekend in Sprague

SPRAGUE — The largest community event of the year will fill downtown this weekend with classic cars, a parade, games, vendors and more.

Sprague Days is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15.

“Sprague is a safe little community,” spokeswoman Joy Wilken said. “Bring your kids; they can run around and be in the parade. It’s good, old-fashioned family fun.”

The festivities kick off with the arrival of classic cars and motorcycles registering for the Renegade Restorations Car and Bike Show downtown, as well as the start of the Disk Dogs event on the lawn at The Viking Drive-Inn, 209 E. Fourth St.

Car and Bike Show registration begins at 9 a.m .; about 50 classic cars and motorcycles are expected. The show opens to the public at 10 a.m.

The Disk Dog competition begins at 9 a.m.

Participants can even drive their car in the parade, which winds through town, starting at 11 a.m.

Maureen Bourne has been named grand marshal of this year’s event, an honor for which she was selected due to her dedication and volunteer work in town and local schools.

Sprague Days also includes a chalk art contest, live music by Ritzville-based “The Old Dogs” from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and games from 1-3 p.m. and vendors all day.

“There are a lot of low- or no-cost activities for families,” Wilken said.

A beer garden is also planned downtown and Railroad Depot Museum will host a flea market from noon to 3 p.m.

New this year will be a painting party. For a fee, participants can take a professional painting lesson; the fee includes supplies to participate.

Around town, visitors will also find several yard sales, as well as the two-day, fund-raising co-ed softball tournament benefiting the local Norman’s World Animal Rescue and Sanctuary.

“They operate on a shoestring,” Wilken said of the animal shelter, noting softball games will be at Sprague School.

In addition to sanctioned activities, several residents are planning on yard sales, offering something for everyone.

On Sunday morning, a Little League fund-raising breakfast and church in the park are planned.

Breakfast runs from 8 a.m. until noon at the community hall and St. John Lutheran will host the church service, starting at 9 a.m.
