Fall season gets underway

RITZVILLE - The fall sports season officially kicks off with regular play beginning this Friday and Saturday.

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos boys football team will open the season at 7 p.m. Friday in Spangle at Liberty High School.

The Broncos return five seniors to the starting lineup, including running back Brody Boness, who suffered an injury last season.

In their last matchup, the Broncos crushed the Liberty Lancers, 60-14, on Sept. 8, 2024.

Last season, the Broncos opened by winning its first four games, but injuries took their toll on the local team and the boys finished the year 5-5. Liberty finished 3-7 overall.

The Bronco girls are expected to make a state trophy run again this year. Last year, the Broncos finished second in state, falling to Manson in the title game.

Only one senior graduated from the team, and Coach Cari Galbreath has again created an atmosphere for success.

The Broncos open at home Saturday at 12:15 p.m., hosting Reardan in Gilson Gymnasium.

The Broncos return to the court again Monday evening, when they will host the Columbia (Burbank) Coyotes at 4:30 p.m.
