Othello man accused in attack

OTHELLO — A local man was released from the Benton County Jail on July 24 after being arrested in connection with an attempted stabbing.

Claudio Aguirre-Vazquez, 50, was released on his own recognizance, jail records show. He was initially arrested July 21 on a first-degree assault charge and booked into the jail.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of an assault in a field near the intersection of state Highway 26 and South Booker Road.

Records show a victim, whose name was not released but is public record, and witnesses told deputies there was an argument between multiple people.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, records show. Aguirre-Vazquez allegedly pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the victim.

Aguirre-Vazquez also used a garden hoe to strike the victim several times, records show.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries, records show.

Deputies arrested Aguirre-Vazquez and then executed a search warrant in the 500 block of South Sixth Avenue in search of evidence in the attack.
