Preliminary election results announced

RITZVILLE – With 29 precincts reporting, Adams County has released preliminary results for several local tax measures, all of which appear to be passing.

As of 8:13 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1,045 ballots had been counted in the primary election. There are 8,117 registered voters in the county, reflecting a 12.87% voter turnout.

An estimated 451 ballots remain to be counted, with the next update scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Here are the preliminary results for local tax measures:

Lind Parks and Recreation District No. 3 

Proposition 1 was supported by 66 voters and rejected by 35. The measure would establish a one-year regular property levy estimated at 19 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The levy will be the district's primary funding source for recreation services.

Proposition 1 for Ritzville Park and Recreation District No. 4 received 214 votes in favor and 143 against.

Proposition 1 for Cemetery District 1 was approved with 30 votes and rejected by 8. This measure establishes a one-year property levy rate for Washtucna Pioneer Memorial Cemetery.

Proposition 1 for Cemetery District 2 was approved by 253 votes and rejected by 231. This measure establishes a one-year regular property levy for the Othello Cemetery (American Legion Cemetery), with an estimated rate of 2 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The levy will provide funding for the maintenance of the cemetery grounds.

Late arriving ballots will be counted in the coming weeks, with official results certified Aug. 20.
