Wanted man arrested in Ritzville

RITZVILLE — A fugitive convicted of killing a baby was arrested here Friday, July 12, on a warrant for violating the terms of his parole.

Jereme Joseph Bassett, 39, was arrested and transported to Yakima County, where he was booked into the jail, records show. As of press time, he was being held without bail.

Bassett was sentenced to 15 years in prison in June 2010 after being convicted for second-degree murder of 7-month-old Neveah Miller, the daughter of his ex-girlfriend, records show. He was also convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend’s 8-year-old son.

The murder and assault took place at West Wynn Motel, 2701 W. Sunset Blvd., near Spokane International Airport.

After serving his prison sentence, Bassett was released and put on probation, records show. But on March 29, 2024, the state Department of Corrections secretary issued a warrant for the arrest for Bassett for violating the terms of his parole.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service tracked Bassett to Ritzville, where, with the assistance of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested without incident, records show.

This isn’t the first time Bassett was arrested for violating the terms of his probation and being arrested in this area.

He was arrested on Oct. 7, 2023, on Lakeview Ranch Loop Road, about 5 miles north of Odessa off state Highway 21, by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for violating his parole, records show.

While Bassett listed his home as Yakima at the time, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office believed he was living in the Odessa area.

He was also arrested on Feb. 11, 2023, for another state Department of Corrections warrant.
