Broncos qualify for state track

Competitions begin Thursday in Yakima

YAKIMA - Several Broncos are headed to the state track meet this coming weekend following a solid performance in the regional championships May 18 on Jimmie Snider Field.

Zach Klein, Brody Boness, Shawn Steinberger, Brock Kinch, Damon Schilling and Bridger Moore will represent the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys at the state meet Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25, at Eisenhower High School's Zaepfel Stadium, located at the intersection of South 40th Avenue and Tieton Drive.

For the Bronco girls, Zoe Galbreath, Saige Galbreath, Allesandra Mendez and Claire Wellsandt will be competing. Lexi Hernandez and Addy Colbert are alternates for the girls 4X400 relay team.

In individual events, Klein qualified for the 200-meter and the 400-meter, and Boness qualified in shot put. Zoe Galbreath qualified in pole vault and Saige Galbreath in discus.

Klein, Steinberger, Kinch and Schilling combined to qualify in the boys 4X100 relay. Steinberger, Klein, Schilling and Moore qualified in the boys 4X400 relay.

In the girls 4X400 relay, Saige Galbreath, Zoe Galbreath, Mendez and Wellsandt qualified to compete, with Hernandez and Colbert standing by should an alternate runner be needed.

State competition begins at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 23; opening ceremonies take place at 3:40. Competition on Friday begins at 9:45 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The Bronco tracksters qualified for a trip to state during the District 7 regional championships.

As a team, the Lind-Ritzville boys finished seventh overall with 56.5 points; St. George's dominated the field, amassing 116 team points for first.

In girls team scoring, St. George's edged Davenport, 138 points to 130, to finish one-two, respectively. The Bronco girls were seventh with 44.

400-meter - Klein, 5th, 52.22; and Schilling, 7th, 54.04.

1,600-meter - Brix Curtis, 11th, 4:57.75; Moore, 13th, 4:58.80; and Caleb Heater, 16th, 5:38.26.

300-meter Hurdles - Heater, 6th, 47.95; and Fredy Granados-Lopez, 7th, 53.71.

4X100 Relay - Ritzville, 3rd, 44.75.

4X400 Relay - Ritzville, 3rd, 3:35.40.

Shot Put - Boness, 1st, 44-09.5.

Discus - Aidan Miller, 7th, 111-09; Boness, 14th, 95-02.5; and Cameron Boness, 15th, 89-00.

Javelin - Heater, 9th, 117-10; and John Stromberger, 14th, 101.5.

Pole Vault - Carson Kubik, 4th, 10-00.

Long Jump - Brett Cresse, 8th (tie), 17-09.
