Track team competes at league meet

Broncos now preparing for regionals

COLFAX - The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys finished fifth in the league track meet April 30, but the Bronco girls could only muster a ninth-place finish.

The local boys tied for fifth with Jenkins (Chewelah) with 58 points each. St. George's won with 109 points, followed by Reardan with 95. Colfax was third with 73 and Davenport fourth with 71.

In the girls division, the Broncos score 36 points to edge only Colfax with 32. The girls team title was won by Davenport with 159 points.

Junior Brody Boness was the only Bronco to bring home an individual win, taking first place in boys shot put with a throw of 42-02.

Several local tracksters, however, earned Top 4 finishes.

In the boys 200-meter, junior Zach Klein took third in 24.12 and senior Brock Kinch fourth in 24.51.

And in the boys 4X100 Relay, Klein and Kinch joined senior Shawn Steinberger and sophomore Damon Schilling to win second in 45.79.

Then in the boys 4X400 Relay, Schilling, Steinberger, Klein and senior Bridger Moore combined for s second-place finish in 3:35.90.

In girls events, it was junior Claire Wellsandt and sophomore Zoe Galbreath leading the way.

Wellsandt took second in the girls 400-meter with a time of 1:05.02, a personal record. Galbreath was fourth in the same event with a time of 1:08.77.

Wellsandt also earned a third-place finish with the girls 4X100 Relay team, which also included sophomore Saige Galbreath and freshmen Allie Mendez and Lexi Hernandez. The team posted a time of 55.42.

The girls 4X200 Relay team of Wellsandt, Saige and Zoe Galbreath, and Mendez, also took third with a time of 1:57.96. The same girls finished third as a team in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 4:34.53.

Shot Put - Harder, 15th, 33-11.5; sophomore Aiden Miller, 25th, 31-01; Mendoza, 28th, 30-00; and Klewin, 43rd, 25-01.

The Broncos get a break the rest of the week as they prepare for the Class 2B District 7 Regional Championships Wednesday, May 15, and Saturday, May 18.

The meet will take place here at Jimmie Snider Field; the first field events begin at noon. Running events begin at 1 p.m.

The Class 1B Districts 7 and 9 Regionals will be taking place simultaneously here, as well.
