Whitworth hosts Northeast 2B tournament
SPOKANE — After three matches over the last two weeks, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague tennis team is ready for district play.
District began Tuesday, May 7, at Whitworth University in Spokane.
In girls singles, Bronco Danika Cox was scheduled to open against Kerstin Lundgren of Reardan; and Carlie Loop was scheduled to face Audra Gliniak of St. George’s. Bronco Meghan Rivers was on tap to play Emily Howder of Jenkins (Chewelah).
The first round were all loser-out games; the newspaper went to press before tournament play.
In girls doubles, Savannah Carruth and Liberty McClanathan were scheduled to open against Kos and Tebrani of St. George’s; and Destiny Phelps and Faye Nicolls were scheduled to take on Fay and VanDusen.
Not all teams reported first names of players.
In boys singles, Bronco Isaiah Ginnard opened against Alex Beckman of Jenkins and Drake Gloyn was to face Dillon Dituri of Jenkins.
In boys doubles, Durbin and Durbin opened against Reichel and Mosbaum of St. George’s; and Cameron Christianson and Camron Olson faced Schultheis and Zhou of St. George’s.
Jeffrey Christianson received a first-round bye, but will open against Adam Vavruska of Jenkins.
Last week, the local tennis players faced off against Kettle Falls, with Carlie Loop topping Kiki Golphenee, 8-0 in girls singles.
In doubles, Carruth and McClanathan lost to Kate and Elsie, 06, 3-6. But Rivers and Cox topped Grace and Marlowe, 6-3, 6-0.
Rivers and Thali Rundquist lost to Adison and Zoe, 2-8.
Cox and Jeffrey Christianson topped Lly and Kailish, 6-1, 6-0; and Cameron Christianson and Camron Olson topped Laura and Hope, 8-2.
Against Reardan on April 30, Jeffrey Christianson topped E.J. Preuschoff 6-6,. 7-4, 1-6, 14-12. Gloyn topped Dom Board, 6-2, 6-3; but Noah Dockery lost to Elsa Wescer, 0-6, 06.
Cameron Christianson and Camron Olson topped Braden Durbin and Marcus Durbin, 6-1, 6-2.
While Cox lost to Hailey Fry of Reardan 2-6,0-6; Carruth and McClanathan won over Kaitlyn Guhlke and Ellie 6-0, 6-0.
Rundquist and Destiny Phelps also won, topping Genesis and Kayla 6-2, 6-0.
The April 25 match against Kettle Falls was rained out, but not before the Broncos won two matches, as Loop topped Golphenee, 6-0, 6-2; and Cameron Christianson and Olson defeated Marie and Grace 6-0,6-0.
