Youth sell livestock above market value

Lind-Ritzville, Sprague youth sell in Spokane event

SPOKANE - Dozens of Adams County and nearby youth participated in the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane Youth Market Sale on Saturday, May 4, making thousand of dollars.

Alyssa Williams of Lind-Ritzville FFA sold her award-winning beef for $5,961.25; weighing in at 1,255 pounds she earned $4.75 per pound.

The market value of her beef entry was an estimated $2,070.75.

Wade Palmer of the Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club sold his purple-placing swin for $670. It weighed in at 268 pounds and garnered $2.50 per pound. The market value was $187.60.

The club's Jace Palmer also weighed in a swine, which soled for $2.75 per pound. Weighing in at 292 pounds, his swine sold for $803, far above the $204.40 market value.

In the Goat 4-H division, Austyn McKay of Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club sold his blue-ribbon goat for a total of $720. It weighed 72 pounds and received a bid of $10 per pound. The goat's market value was $187.20.

In the Beef 4-H division for Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club, Reagan Korthuis and Maeve Korthuis each sold their cattle for nearly $4,000.

Reagan Korthuis sold her blue-ribbon livestock for $3 per poound; it weighted 1,267 pounds and raised $3,801.

Meanwhile, Maeve Korthuis sold her first-place beef for $3 per pound, as well. Her entry weighed 1,263 pounds and raised a total of $3,789. It's market value was $2,083.95.

For the same 4-H club, Landon Williams also had a first-place entry. Williams sold his 1,120 pound beef for $3 per pound, raising $3,360. The market value was $1,848.

Sprague FFA

Here are the results for Sprague FFA members:

• Mithcell Lowry sold his blue-ribbon swine for $762 pounds. His hog weighed in a 254 pounds and sold for $3.00 per pound. The market value is an estimated$177.80

• Eric Tweetin sold his first-place swine for $814. It weighed in at 296 pounds and went for $2.75 per pound. The market value was an estimated $207.20.

• Madison Brown received $814 for her first-place swine. Her hog sold for $2.75 per pound and weighed 296 pounds. Her blue-ribbon hog had a market value also of $207.20.

• Turner Osborne sold a 238-pound swine for a total of $654.50; the market value was $166.60. The hog received a red ribbon and collected $2.75 per pound

• Isaiah Ginnard made $735 on the sale of his first-place swine. Weighing in at 245 pounds, Ginnard's hog soled for $3 per pound. It had a market value of $171.50.

• Emmareese Fortin sold her first-place goat for $5.25 per pound. The goat weighed 107 pounds and sold for $561.75 total.
