Girls close regular season

Crusaders sweep Broncos in season finale

RITZVILLE — The Broncos girls fastpitch softball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday, April 27, with two losses.

The Northwest Christian (Colbert) batters proved too much for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in the Northeast 2B softball finale.

The Crusaders, currently in second place in the Northeast 2B, swept the Broncos 10-0 in the opener and 12-1 in the nightcap.

Individual results were not reported.

Several of the Broncos players are dual-spring sport athletes, also scheduled to compete simultaneously in the Undeberg Invitational track meet at Snider Field.

The Crusaders (12-4, 9-3 in league) are second behind Liberty (Spangle), which has only lost one game all season.

The Broncos are currently in fifth-place with a 6-6 league record.

The losses were the final two games of the season for the Broncos before district play opens May 14 at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

If league standings don’t change this week, the Broncos would likely open against the league’s No. 4 team, Colfax (10-6, 9-5 in league).

In their season matchup March 28, the teams split, with the Broncos winning the opening game 12-8, and the Bulldogs winning the closer, 17-5.
