AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A COUNTY CORONER

AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING

FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF

A COUNTY CORONER

WHEREAS, as of January 1,

2025, RCW 36.16.030 requires

every county to elect a county

coroner or, in counties with a

population of less than forty

thousand, the county legislative

authority may determine

that no coroner shall be elected

and shall instead appoint a

coroner; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW

36.16.030, any county may

enter into an interlocal agreement

under chapter 39.34 RCW

with an adjoining county for the

provision of coroner or medical

examiner services; and

WHEREAS, on February 26,

2024, the Adams County Board

of Commissioners appeared at

a Lincoln County Board of Commissioner

meeting to discuss

RCW 36.16.030 with Commissioners

Scott Hutsell; Rob

Coffman; and Jo Gilchrist; and

WHEREAS, the consensus of

the county legislative bodies

present determined that no

coroner shall be elected at either

county and instead a coroner

shall be appointed.

THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED

by the Adams County

Board of Commissioners:

APPOINTMENT OF

COUNTY CORONER

SECTION I

The Board of County Commissioners

of Adams County, state

of Washington, in accordance

with RCW 36.16.030, has determined

that no coroner shall be

elected in Adams County.

SECTION II

The Board of County Commissioners

of Adams County shall

appoint a coroner and/or enter

into an interlocal agreement

under RCW 39.34 with an adjoining

county for the provision

of coroner or medical examiner

services.

SECTION III

This ordinance shall take effect

immediately after adoption.
