Adams County supports Trump

RITZVILLE - Following the Tuesday, March 12, primary in Washington and other states, its appears that voters will see a rematch in the race for U.S. President.

Both former President Republican Donald J. Trump and current Democrat President Joseph R. Biden Jr. secured enough support to become the presumptive nominees for their parties.

Unofficial election results as of Monday, March 18, showed that in Washington state, nearly 1.29 million voters cast ballots in the primary election.

Unofficial results show Trump received 581,433 votes statewide, or 75.7% of Republican votes cast. Former candidate Nikki Haley was a distant second with 149,085 votes, or 19.4%, followed by former candidate Ron Desantis with 17,307 votes, or 2.3%.

Biden received 748,401 votes, or 83.5% of Democrat votes. But 9.8% of Democrats cast 87,545 uncommitted ballots.

Statewide, only 47.8% of the voter turnout was Republican.

Adams County

In Adams County, 355 Democrats, 83.1%, turned out for Biden. Dean Phillips was a distant second with 27 votes, or 6.3%.

On the Republican side, Adams County party members preferred Trump, who received 1,672 votes, or 84.0%. Haley lagged far behind with only 253 votes, or 12.7.%.

Overall, Republicans made up 82.3% of the voters who cast ballots in Adams County in the primary election.

Franklin County

Franklin County, too, went overwhelmingly for Trump and Biden.

Trump received, 7,204 votes, or 82.4%, from Republican voters. Haley, was second here, too, with 1,203 votes, or 13.8%.

Democrats broke for Biden with 84.4% support, or 2,696 votes. But a lot of Democrats also said they are not committed to Biden or any other candidate. In fact, "uncommitted" received 216 votes, or 6.8%.

Of the overall voters casting ballots in Franklin County, 73.2% were Republican.
