Two locals partner for venture
RITZVILLE – When Amber Moore and Karissa Scott were renting space at Kim Yaeger's Hair Center on Main Avenue, they learned that a building on North Washington Street had become available.
Diane Swift, who practiced massage therapy in that space for years, had moved on.
After a month remodeling the space, they opened in November.
"Karissa does aesthetics and I offer PMU (permanent makeup)," Moore said.
Scott's part of the business - Sweet Home Aesthetics - offers facials, waxing, eyebrow dyeing, and eyelash extensions. Moore's firm - Beauty by Amber- specializes in eyebrow microblading, teeth whitening, lip blushing, spray tanning and eyelash extensions.
Moore began her career as a nurse after attending Utah State University, but upon meeting her husband in California and moving to this area nine years ago, she decided to leave full-time nursing to spend more time with her three young girls.
Why the field of cosmetics?
"I wanted a non-nursing job that would allow me to continue to interact with clients, to help them feel better about themselves," she said.
Now that her youngest child is 3 years old, Moore hopes to "spread her wings" a little more.
"I thought, why not open a small business and spend more time in the community," she said.
Although she enjoys the art of cosmetics, she plans to maintain her nursing license by taking continuing education courses.
"Once my youngest is in school full-time, I may expand my hours," she said. "I'm also working with a vendor in Odessa, who is opening a deli and vending tables, like a farmer's market. I'll advertise some of my products there."
"Just baby steps now," she said. "But over time, I hope to meet more people and build the business."
