Lind-Ritzville falls in Davenport

Teams host St. George's this week

DAVENPORT- The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington basketball teams struggled Jan. 16 against the Gorillas.

In the girls game, Davenport pulled away in the second half for a 48-39 triumph. The local boys couldn't get past the Gorillas, falling 54-44.

In the girls game, the first half was a defensive slugfest, with neither team finding much offense. Glenna Soliday was the exception, as she poured in 13 first-half points as Davenport took a slim 21-19 lead into halftime.

Clare Lathrop erupted in the second half, scoring 19 of her game-high 23 points to go with 10 rebounds and Davenport built a lead as high as 13 points en route to the 9-point victory.

Soliday added 17 points in the win.

The Gorillas held Lind-Ritzville standout Zoe Galbreath in check, as the sophomore managed just 8 points, 6 of which came in the fourth quarter.

"We didn't shoot well. I don't want to take anything away from our defense, but I think some of it was we just didn't shoot well," Broncos Coach Bryce Court said. "They were starting to score, so we couldn't get out and run and that created another problem."

Davenport (10-4, 7-3 in league) traveled to first-place Colfax on Friday, Jan. 19.

The Broncos (9-6, 6-4 in league) were scheduled to host St. George's (2-14, 2-8 in league) on Friday, Jan. 19. That game was postponed due to winter weather.

The local girls were scheduled to travel to Spangle to play Liberty (12-3, 8-1 in league) on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The newspaper went to press before gametime.

The Bronco girls will host their final home game of the regular season at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, when Upper Columbia Academy of Spangle comes to Gilson Gymnasium.

They will travel to Colfax on Tuesday, Jan. 30, for their final regular season game. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

In boys action, the Gorilla's defense stepped up to hold the Broncos to jut 44 points, while keeping all Lind-Ritzville scorers out of double digits.

Caige Colbert had a game high 18 points for the Gorillas.

Lance Williamson and Brock Kinch were the high-point scorers for Lind-Ritzville with 9 points apiece, while Williamson had 11 rebounds.

The Lind-Ritzville boys (7-9, 4-6 in league) were scheduled to host St. George's (11-5, 8-2 in league) on Friday, Jan. 19. That game was postponed due to a winter storm.

The team was also scheduled to travel to Spangle for another Northeast 2B matchup against Liberty (7-8, 5-4 in league) on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The newspaper went to press before gametime.

The Broncos will host their final home game of the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, when Upper Columbia Academy of Spangle comes to Gilson Gymnasium.

The local boys will travel to Colfax on Tuesday, Jan. 30, for their final regular season game. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
