Bronco girls win twice

Lind-Ritzville routs Jenkins, 72-49, on Jan. 13

CHEWELAH – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague girls routed Jenkins, 72-49, on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The local girls (8-5 overall, 5-3 in league), opened the game by dominating the first half, outscoring Jenkins (6-9, 2-8 in league) by 7 points in the first quarter and 6 in the second.

The Broncos held an 18-11 lead after one quarter and a 41-28 lead at the half.

The Broncos put the game away in the third, outscoring the Cougars, 18-8, to expand the margin to 59-36.

With Lind-Ritzville rotating players in off the bench, the Broncos and Cougars battled to a 13-13 fourth-quarter tie, securing a 72-49 victory for Lind-Ritzville.

Brooke Bennett scored 26 points for Jenkins to lead all scorers.

Bronco Zoe Galbreath was the top-scorer for Lind-Ritzville with 23 points. Bronco teammate Harlee Hennings added 18.

In the game, the Broncos had 11 baskets from beyond the ark, with Galbreath making 4, and Hennings, Saige Galbreath and Allesandra Mendez each adding 2.

Jenkins had 15 fouls in the loss; Lind-Ritzville had 14.

In addition to Zoe Galbreath and Hennings, other Broncos putting points on the board included Saige Galbreath 10, Mendez and Maddie Cameron 6, Danika Cox 5, and Rose Fedie 4.

That league win came a day after the Bronco girls upset Northwest Christian (Colbert), 59-55.

Zoe Galbreath scored a game-high 34 points in the game. Teammates Cameron added 13, Hennings 9, Fedie 2 and Claire Wellsandt 1.

Individual statistics for the Crusaders (10-4, 7-2 in league) were not reported.

This week, Lind-Ritzville hosts St. George’s in Gilson Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 19.

Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
