SPOKANE - A local girl is making a habit of winning medals.
On Dec. 23, Emilia Klewin, a Lind-Ritzville junior, took second in girls wrestling at 170 pounds in the M2 Mallet girls tournament at Rogers High School in Spokane.
Then on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Winter Cup at Hanford High School, she found herself on the podium in fourth place at the Varsity Girls Winter Cup at Hanford High School in Richland.
At M2 Mallet, Klewin won her first match by pinning Madelynn Fox of Ferris in 44 seconds. In the semifinals, she pinned Cali Coyle of Hanford in 41 seconds.
In the championship bout, however, she was pinned by Abigail Itveldt of Gonzaga Prep in 3:22 to finish second, and bring home a silver medal.
At Winter Cup, Klewin opened with a bye and then pinned Cassidy Hernandez of Southridge in 1:11 to reach the semifinals.
In the semifinals, she faced senior Emma Villa of Royal, who pinned her in 1:41.
But Klewin won her first bout in the wrestlebacks, pinning Grandview's Surielah Almazan in 4:57 to reach the match for third-place.
In that bout, she lost a 6-1 decision to Jaylee Lopez of Kennewick to finish fourth.
