Broncos girls lose two

Lind-Ritzville falls to Colfax, Liberty (Spangle)

RITZVILLE – The Broncos girls basketball team dropped two games last week, falling to Liberty, 51-41, on Dec. 12, and then to Colfax, 57-40, on Dec. 16.

Against Colfax, Brynn McGaughy dominated the court for the Broncos. The 6-foot-2 junior post scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs. Colfax (3-3, 2-0 in league) teammate, junior 5-foot-7 Brenna Gilchrist, added 11 points.

Bronco sophomore Zoe Galbreath led all scorers with 23 points.

Colfax set the tone early taking a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 30-22 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs never looked back, outscoring the Broncos 12-7 in the third quarter and 15-11 in the final stanza.

Other Bulldogs putting points on the board include Hailey Demler, 9; Lauryn York, Ashley Ring and Ava Swan, 7 each; Cianna Gibb,3; and Destiny Nelson and Lola Hennigar, 2 each.

For the Broncos, senior Harlee Hennings scored 7 points. Other Broncos putting puts up include Addy Colbert, 5; Saige Galbreath and Claire Wellsandt, 2 each; and Maddi Cameron, 1.

In their loss to Liberty (1-0, 1-0 in league), the Lancers came out on fire, racking up a 13-point lead in the first quarter.

That lead was too much for the Broncos to overcome.

The Lancers led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and 29-14 at the half.

They expanded their lead to 39-23 at the end of three.

In the final quarter, the Broncos rallied and outscored the Lancers 18-12, not enough to win.

Grace Grumbly led the Lancers with 22 points.

For the Broncos, Zoe Galbreath scored a game high 28 points to lead all scorers.

The Lancers hit four, 3-point shots in the game, with Grumbly making three of them.

The Broncos had three, 3-point shots, with Zoe Galbreath making 2 and Colbert adding the third.

Other Bronco girls scoring in the game included Hennings, 12 points; Saige Galbreath, 6; Colbert, 3; and Maddi Cameron, 2.
