Broncos fall to Bulldogs, 71-36

Second loss in a week for local boys

RITZVILLE – The visiting Colfax Bulldogs were too much for the Bronco boys to handle Saturday, Dec. 16, during a Northeast 2B league basketball matchup.

The Bulldogs tamed the Broncos, 71-36.

Adrik Jenkin led all scorers with 21 points for the undefeated Bulldogs (6-0, 2-0 in league).

With 14 points, freshman Joey Duff led the Broncos (6-2, 3-2 in league).

The Colfax team featured two familiar Lind-Ritzville faces – Ledger Kelly, a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard, and Jayce Kelly, a 6-foot-3 junior guard. The Kelly brothers previously attended Lind-Ritzville High School and played sports for the Broncos.

Jayce Kelly was the second highest scorer in the game, putting up 17 points for Colfax.

Others scoring for Colfax included J.P. Wigen, 8; Seth Lustig and Jaxon Wick, 7 each; Ledger Kelley, 4; Gunner Brown, 3; and Brice Hammer and J.P. McAnally, 2 each.

For the Broncos, Lance Williamson scored 10 points while Bridger Moore put up 5.

Other Lind-Ritzville scorers included seniors Bridger Moore, 5; Shawn Steinberger, 3; Brock Kinch, 2; and Blake Earle 2.

The loss to Colfax was the second consecutive league loss in a week.

On Dec. 12, the Broncos were outpaced by another Northeast 2B rival, the Liberty (Spangle) Lancers.

The Lancers (2-1) won that game, 68-57, in a fourth quarter rally in which Liberty put up 22 points, but the Broncos could only muster 9.

Williamson led all scorers with 22 points for the Broncos. Liberty's Thomas Domrese led his team with 21.

Other Broncos putting points on the board in that game included Duff, 13; Steinberger 6; Zach Klein, 9; and Kinch, 3.

Heading into the Christmas break, the Broncos were scheduled to host Asotin (5-5, 1-4 in league) on Tuesday night, Dec. 19.

The newspaper went to press before that game started.

The local boys will also travel to Tri-Cities Prep on Thursday, Dec. 21, before returning home for a game against Columbia (Burbank).

For the final home game of the week, it's also Ugly Sweater Night in Gilson Gymnasium.

"Wear your ugly sweater and get a Grinch Slushy or Santa Float from the concessions," Broncos Coach and Athletic Director Dustan Arlt said in an email Monday.
