Flu cases rising in county

Officials recommend seasonal shot

RITZVILLE – Adams County Integrated Healthcare Services Administrator Vicki Guse is recommending residents get a flu shot.

According to Guse, the county is seeing an increase in the number of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus cases.

Guse said a flu shot is recommended for everyone older than 6 months old.

“Influenza strain A is currently the dominant strain in Washington,” she said. “The flu vaccine is a good match against this strain of influenza.”

There is also a shot available for the respiratory syncytial virus.

That shot is recommended for those older than 60, she said.

Those who are sick should stay home for at least 24 hours after any fever is gone, she said.
