Starring hero in gun battle
Marshal Jim Starring came upon two safe-crackers at work in the Myers-Shepley store at 2:30 Wednesday morning just as they had blown open the safe. Starring replied and the robbers fled across the alley, broke through The Journal-Times building by breaking out the glass in both the rear and front door. They ran across the railroad track and across lots to First Avenue. No subsequent trace of the men was found. The sudden interruption of the marshal prevented the men from looting the safe, although they did get away with a small bag of till change.
