Broncos finish second in state

Manson sweeps Lind-Ritzville in title game

YAKIMA – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos had an impressive run in the WIAA 2B State Tournament. The Broncos finished second overall after a straight-set loss to the Manson Trojans.

The state tournament was a two-day tournament that took place in Yakima on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8 and 9.

Set scores for the state championship game saw the Trojans comfortably take all three sets: 15-25, 15-25, 20-25. 21-25.

The Trojans entered the tournament as the number two overall seed, where as the Broncos entered as the number five overall seed.

The first set saw the teams tied at five each before the Trojans flew to a 10-6 lead before the Broncos called a timeout.

In the timeout, Broncos head coach Cari Galbreath gave her team words of encouragement, and had the team working on their game.

The Broncos would go on a mini-run, trailing 11-16 before Galbreath called another timeout. Unfortunately for the Broncos, they would fall 15-25 in the set.

The second set saw the Trojans lead 14-8 before Galbreath called a timeout to try and regroup her team.

After two more points from the Trojans, they would go on a run to take the set 15-25.

The third set was all Trojans, leading 3-9, then would lead 8-10 before a Broncos timeout.

After the Broncos got within one, the Trojans let the game see a 20-20 tie before winning the third set 25-21, taking the state championship in a three-set sweep.

Galbreath and the Broncos have nothing to hang their heads about. Galbreath led her team from a fifth-overall seed to a state championship final game.

In the four games the Broncos played at the tournament, they only lost three sets, all to the Trojans.

The Broncos ended their season better than expected, and bounced back from losing the district championship match to the Colfax Bulldogs earlier in the season.

Galbreath had nothing but encouragement for her team throughout the tournament, the future of Broncos volleyball is as bright as ever.
