Broncos to host Crusaders

Game will decide which is atop NE2B

RITZVILLE – The Broncos will face their toughest challenge of the football season, so far, this Friday, Sept. 29, when the Northwest Christian (Colbert) Crusaders come to town.

The matchup of the two defeated teams could be the game that decides the league champion.

Northeast Christian (4-0) is the No. 1-ranked Class 2B boys football team in the state; Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (4-0) is ranked No. 8.

“They are a pretty good football team,” Bronco Coach Brendan Bermea said Saturday. “I’m excited for the game, and so are my guys.”

Both teams come into this week’s 7 p.m. game at Jimmie Snider Field off big wins.

The Crusaders routed Asotin (2-2), 47-6, and the Broncos crushed Kettle Falls (0-1), 50-6.

Looking back on last Friday in Kettle Falls, Bermea said the Bulldogs are a much-improved team.

“They just don’t have enough guys,” he said. “I was pretty impressed with them.”

Bermea also had praise for his own players.

On the ground, Brody Boness and Brock Kinch each at 2 touchdowns, and Joey Duff had one.

In the air, Travis Redburn completed 3-of-4 passes for 63 yards and a touchdown to Zach Klein. And backup quarterback, freshman Cameron Boness, completed 1-of-3 for 58 yards and a touchdown pass to Duff.

Neither quarterback was intercepted.

Overall, the Broncos carried the ball 23 times for 265 yards on the ground and completed 7 passess for an addition 121 yards, for a total of 376 yards..

The Bulldogs were held to just 93 yards on the ground on 42 carries. They also completed 7 of 17 passes for 70 yards and 3 interceptions.
