'Bushels of fun' planned for fair

RITZVILLE - Old-fashioned fun and activities will abound this weekend at the annual Wheat Land Communities' Fair and Ritzville Rodeo.

This year's theme is "Bushels of Fun."

The fair features 4-H, Future Farmers of America and local grange exhibits.

Youth will be showing their animals throughout the fair, from Wednesday, Aug. 30 to Sunday, Sept. 3.

In addition to the showing and fitting, there will be a number of demonstrations, including Gymkhana, archery, the Adams County Sheriff's Office and more.

Ralston Grangers will be offering a baked potato bar Wednesday, and then concessions and Bingo the rest of the weekend.

Live entertainment is also planned, with The Big Dawg and The Howlers performing Saturday.

Children's activities and stick horse races are also planned.

All the daytime festivities lead up to rodeo action in the evenings.

The Ritzville Rodeo Association will host its Play Day Jackpot on Thursday night in the arena.

Then on Friday and Saturday, its rodeo time with performances beginning at 7 p.m.

Friday night is Tough Enough to Wear Pink night at the rodeo.

Activities run from 9 a.m. Saturday until after the rodeo ends.

On Sunday, the day kicks off with a shootout at 9 a.m. by the Western Washington Mounted Shooters.

Cowboy Church is set for the amphitheater at 10 a.m.

The fair wraps up with a livestock awards ceremony at noon.

There is an admission cost for the fair; the fairgrounds are located at 811 E. Main Ave.
