RITZVILLE - The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Bronco football players had their annual pool party Friday night, Aug. 18, with parents barbecuing burgers and serving home-made desserts at Ritzville Water Park.
The football team is coached by Brendan Berme and assisted by Jack Welker, Joseph Roach, Jason Hilzer and Alan Field.
"We are excited for a great season this year," said Hilzer, who ran the athletes through several competitive games and relays after an hour of swimming, diving and horsing around.
One game had two teams of swimmers on opposite sides of the pool, kicking vigorously to force a ball from the middle of the pool to the "weaker" kickers' side.
After-three-and-a-half minutes of non-stop kicking, the athletes slowed.
"All of our coaches are very understanding of soreness and injuries, as well as being tough to make us better," said Carson Kubik, a football player who works as a lifeguard at the pool.
Looking forward
to the upcoming season, Kubik said he was most excited "just to play under the lights to entertain all the fans that come to watch the games."
Kubik said what he enjoyed most about his job at the pool is working with his friends who also work as lifeguards.
Emmy Klewin, Saige Galbreath, Arienna Bernal, Madisyn Cameron and Katie Teachout were on duty as lifeguards during the football pool party.
Pool Manager Donna Kessler said the team has been renting the pool for their annual party the past eight years she has been working there, and possibly longer.
This year's rental cost was covered by Mike and Harriet Lynch.
Adams County Park and Recreation District No. 4 operates Ritzville Water Park.
