Schmunk, Weidemann lead

LIND – Four candidates will be advancing to the general election in races for two seats on the Town Council.

Unofficial results from the Aug. 1 primary election show Jamie Schmunk and Myra J. Horton will be headed to the general election after finishing as the Top 2 candidates in the race for Town Council seat No. 4.

Schmunk led with 73 votes, 36.14%, while Horton was second with 54 votes, or 26.73%, just five votes ahead of third-place finisher Heather Reed.

Reed and candidates Christopher Olson and Richard Baldwin won't be advancing, as only the Top 2 candidates qualify for the Nov. 1 ballot.

In the race for Town Council Position No. 5, it'll be Jim Weidemann and James N. Dworshak advancing.

Weidemann topped the field of five candidates with 65 votes, or 32.34%. Dworshak was second with 54 votes, or 26.87%.

Candidates eliminated from the race include P.J. Jacobsen, Briana Osborn and Denise Snead.

Osborn and Snead were in a dead heat for third-place as of press time, with Snead having 38 votes and Osborn 37.

A ballot measure supporting Lind's town pool looked to have enough support to pass.

Adams County Park and Recreation District No. 3's Proposition No. 1 had received 176 votes of approval and 97 votes in opposition.

The measure was passing with a 64.47% support.

To be approved, it must also be validated by 40% of voters in the last general election. The Lind measure needed 163 total votes to be validated.
