Leaders far ahead of other candidates.

RITZVILLE — Jessica Quinn and Jen Verhey lead the races for two City Council seats at the end of the first day of counting in the Tuesday, Aug. 1 primary election.

Quinn has 41 votes, or 64.06%, in her bid to win the Ward No. 1 seat. That's more than double her nearest opponent, Dede Boyer with 15 votes, or 23.44%. in third place, David Dahill has 5 votes, or 7.81%.

Three ballots contained write-in candidates and 10 were under-votes, Adams County Auditor's Office election officials reported.

There are only 210 registered voters in Ward No. 1; late-arriving ballots have yet to be counted.

Only the Top 2 candidates advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

In the race for an at-large council seat, Verhey has a commanding lead with 237 votes, or 61.56%.

Verhey's ballot total is more than all the other four candidates combined.

Marsha R. Smith is in second place with 79 votes, or 20.52% and Charles F. Jingling third with 33 votes, or 8.57%.

Dan Peters is in fourth with 18 votes, 4.68%, and Gregory V. Granger fifth with 15 votes, 3.90%.

The at-large race had three write-in ballots, five overvotes and 14 undervotes.

There are 1163 registered voters eligible to cast ballots in the at-large race, leaving 759 ballots that could still be counted.

Voter turnout in the race was projected at 34.74%, so far, elections officials said.

Only the Top 2 at-large candidates will advance to the general election on Nov. 7.
