Ritzville man killed in crash on U.S. 2

Fatal incident occurred in roundabout

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A Ritzville man was killed Tuesday, July 18, in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 2.

Jerry W. Armstrong, 47, of Ritzville, was pronounced dead at the scene near Milepost 277, about a mile west of the city of Airway Heights, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Armstrong was eastbound on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle on the highway at about 10:28 p.m. when the crash occurred, the patrol reported.

As he approached a roundabout just west of the intersection with Craig Road, Armstrong lost control of the motorcycle and fell sideways into the roundabout, the patrol reported.

He was hit by a 2004 Nissan Armada already in the roundabout, the patrol reported.

The Armada was driven by Donald G. Young, 41, of Airway Heights, the patrol reported.

Young, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.

Armstrong died at the scene; the patrol and Ritzville police notified his next of kin, the patrol reported.

The patrol listed the cause of the crash as speed.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, the patrol said.
