Ritzville float inaugurates parade season
RITZVILLE – This year's parade float, "Ritzville Rocks," emerged from the festivals building Friday, June 9, kicking off this year's summer royalty season.
Driver Jackson Bartlett cranked up the rock'n'roll music.
Riding the float were Miss Lind-Ritzville Madison Bartlett and Princesses Hannah Hille, Brooklyn Norton and Cooper Jessop.
Police cars and fire trucks escorted the float down Main Street as Dove Blake, Riker Miller and Alison Barlett carried the Ritzville Festivals Association banner.
After the unveiling, the Ritzville royalty made its first festival appearance in the Lind Chamber of Commerce Grand Parade.
Summer school planned for LaCrosse
LaCROSSE – The School District is planning a summer school session for several days in August.
Summer school is open to all incoming students in kindergarten through 12th-grade, officials said.
Summer school is set for 9 a.m. to noon from Aug. 7-10 and Aug. 14-17.
High school students clean up around Ritzville
RITZVILLE – Local high school students spent June 6 cleaning up around town.
Lind-Ritzville High School students dispersed around town for a few hours to spruce up their community and school, school officials said. They scraped and painted at the city park, gathered pine cones at the golf course, and painted bleachers at Jimmie Snider Field.
According to teacher Zach Swanger, students were also hard at work tidying Lions Club and Bronco Booster facilities at the Wheatland fairgrounds.
Principal Kevin Terris noted that all schools in the cooperative schools – Lind, Ritzville, Sprague, Washtucna and Harrington – took part in the community service effort.
University students to visit Ritzville
RITZVILLE – Several University of Washington students are expected to visit the city as they travel across the state.
They will also stop at the Schoesler Farm as part of the annual Faculty Field Tour.
The university students will also be stopping at Mount St. Helens, Vancouver, the Yakima Far Workers' Clinic, Heritage University in Toppenish, Hanford and the Tri-Cities.
After those stops, they will make their way to Ritzville, the Schoesler Farm and then to Spokane, before returning via U.S. Highway 2.
