Councilman Armand lone filer for seat
HARRINGTON — There will be a new mayor in town after the start of the new year.
Current Mayor Jesse Silhan announced on his 75th birthday — Friday, May 19 — that he isn’t seeking re-election after his two-year term expires this year.
“On my birthday, I let people know ... over a piece of pizza and a glass of water at the Harrington Haus,” he said.
Silhan was elected and took the seat Dec. 31, 2021.
“I’ve just decided I’m going to spend a little more time being a 75-year-old man,” Silhan said. “I’ll still be living in Harrington and will serve the city wherever I can.”
Silhan will likely be replaced by Councilman Joe Armand, who was the lone candidate to file for mayor during filing week.
“It’s been a pleasure serving the city and I plan to continue to serve the city,” Silhan said.
Silhan plans to spend retirement traveling and working on his home.
