Band Reorganizes
The old members of the Ritzville brass band met last Saturday evening at the courthouse for the purpose of reorganizing, and the following officers were elected: F.P. French, president and business manager; H.E. Gritman, treasurer; W.W. Zent, secretary; Fred Weiand, leader.
It is the intention of the boys to get in and practice so they will not have to take the dust of any country band in the state. Good thing; push it along boys.
Local and Personal
Dr. Burroughs has improved the looks of his elegant home by having a new front fence built. The doctor tells us he has no idea how the old fence was reduced to its wapper-jawed condition. It has probably never occurred to him that Mrs. Burroughs usually employs good-looking girls, which might account for the young men leaning against said fence.
Mrs. J.E. Prouty started east on a visit Monday. Mrs. Prouty will make the trip alone and was full of confidence in her ability to take care of herself when she left.
P.J. Thiel, a student of the Theological Seminary, Chicago, will start a class in German in the Ritzville public school building. Tuition 75 cents per month.

Asphalt pavers Friday night had laid down the first and thickest lift on 6.3 miles of freeway lanes at the east end of the 27-mile stretch of Interstate 90 under construction west of here. Inland Asphalt Co. is the prime contractor for surfacing 9.8 miles of the new freeway extending from about two miles west of here nearly to the new interchange with Sign Route 21, the Lind-Odessa road.
Name of Pullman
unfair to women
Pullman, the city in which Washington State University is located, could become the center of a name-change controversy. A letter to the Washington State University student newspaper, The Daily Evergreen, has suggested that the City of Pullman change its name. "The very name Pullman is sexist and chauvinistic in nature. It is our position the city must change its name to Pullperson. In this age of great sociological needs, it is the only thing to do," the letter read.
