Desert 100 rides in

IRBY—For one dusty, loud and exciting weekend, Irby will be the most populated area in Lincoln County.

Thousands of motor enthusiasts and spectators will gather for the 51st Stumpjumpers Desert 100 race on Irby Road, off state Highway 21, starting Friday, March 31.

Co-chairman Tom McIntosh said last year’s event brought about 4,300 riders and many more in attendance. It’s the largest motorcycle race in the state.

“We had 1,800 riders just on Sunday last year,” McIntosh said.

Gates open Thursday, March 30, for setup and camping.

There are poker runs set for Friday morning starting at 7 a.m.

On Saturday, the Ironman and Dual sport course opens at 7 a.m. Mini-race competitors will meet at 8 a.m. and the family course opens at 8:30 a.m. .

The beginner ladies’ ride follows mini-races.

Registration for the main Desert 100 starts at 7 a.m. The 50-mile and 100-mile races follow registration.

“We’ve laid over 1,000 T-posts, 6 miles of rope and over 50 miles of pink ribbon,” McIntosh said.

The Odessa Chamber of Commerce is hosting a beer garden with music.
