Statebound! Three boys head to Mat Classic

Smith, Tracy and Rosman advance

REARDAN - Three Bronco wrestlers are headed to the state Mat Classic this Thursday and Friday in the Tacoma Dome.

Gabe Smith will be wrestling at 195 pounds and Brock Tracy at 285. Wyatt Rosman is the alternate at 113 pounds.

The trio advanced after placing in the Top 4 at the regional tournament Saturday, Feb. 11, in Reardan.

Overall, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague wrestlers finished ninth as a team with 57.5 points.

Jenkins High School from Chewelah won the team title with 195 points. Liberty, from Spangle, was second with 159.

Smith led the team with a second-place finish, earning 20 team points along the way.

He opened at 195 by pinning Roy Greer of Mary Walker (Springdale) in 36 seconds to advance to the semifinals.

There, he pinned Dylan Valadez, also of Mary Walker, in 4:27.

In the championship bought, he lost by pin to Sam Schneider of Davenport in 3:10.

Schneider was named the league's top wrestler by coaches.

Tracy, at 285, won bronze, and scored 18 team points.

He opened by pinning Fred Morris of Jenkins (Chewelah) in 24 seconds.

In in the semifinals, he lost to Kaden Hippler of Kettle Falls by pin in 1:12.

In the wrestlebacks, he pinned Tristen Burd of Colfax in 49 seconds.

In the bout for third place, he pinned Cole Snider of Wilbur-Creston in 1:35.

At 113, Rosman scored 9.5 team points.

He lost his opening match by pin to Kevin Moehnke of Mary Walker in 5:05, then topped Noah Everett of Davenport, 15-0, a technical fall at 2:21.

In his final match, he was pinned by Moxon Strobel of Liberty in 55 seconds.

In other matches:

Wyatt Gibler, at 106 pounds, was pinned in his opening match by Spencer Duty of Selkirk in 1:27, but rebounded in his second match to pin Kashes Somday of Republic-Curley in 1:45.

Nakoa Rocha of Northwest Christian (Colbert) then edged Gibler, 3-0, sending him to the bout for fifth place, where he won by medical forfeit over Forest Royal of Inchelium.

At 132 pounds, Kaleb Kuykendall lost his opening match by pin to David Phillips of Republic-Curlew in 25 seconds, then was pinned by River Crandall of Davenport in 4:49.

Eighth-grader Pete Spain, wrestling at 152, opened with a loss by pin to Jared Haden of Jenkins in 30 seconds, then was pinned by Nathan Rasmussen in 3:34.
