RITZVILLE –The undefeated and No.1-ranked Colfax girls basketball team continued its dominance of Northeast 2B opponents with a 81-42 win over the Broncos on Friday, Jan. 27.
Colfax senior guard Jaisha Gibb started the game with two 3-point shots. The Bulldogs never looked back.
She scored 8 of her team's 18 first quarter points as Colfax took an 18-5 lead over Lind/Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Kahlotus.
In the second quarter, Bulldogs sophomore Brynn McGaughy took care of business on both ends of the court. She made four baskets inside the paint and one 3-pointer from behind the arc.
In addition, she pulled down four rebounds and made one steal. Her 13 first-half points along with Gibb's 12 put the Bulldogs ahead 45-21 at halftime.
Zoe Galbreath led the Broncos with 11 points.
In the second half, Colfax outscored the Broncos, 36-21. Gibb, McGaughy and Brenna Gilchrist each scored 7 points.
McGaughy led all scorers with 22 points. In addition, she pulled down 13 rebounds and had one blocked shot.
"With Brynn (McGaughy) being so tall, we should have helped each other down low better than we did." Lind-Ritzville's Madisyn Cameron said. "Our defense improved in the second half, but we still need to work on it."
Gibb recorded 19 points, and had six steals and five assists. Gilchrist, Lauryn York and Ava Swan scored 14, 9 and 6 points, respectively. Hailey Demler hauled in 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
"I thought we moved the ball and played well as a team," Colfax's York said. "We focused on our defense tonight, and that really showed."
Broncos Coach Bryce Court said his team had to pick its poison matched up against Colfax.
"That's a team with a ton of weapons," he said. "We tried to stop an amazing girl (McGaughy) from scoring a bunch, but there is only so much you can do. She did a great job both rebounding and scoring."
Overall, Court was pleased with his team's play.
"I was really excited about how Addy Colbert and others who came off the bench played.
"They are starting to find their niche."
Galbreath led the Broncos in scoring with 18 points. Harlee Hennings and Colbert scored 10 and 8 points, respectively.
"I'm proud of our overall effort," Colfax Coach Jordan Holmes said. "It's a good win for us."
The win improved Colfax's record to 18-0 overall and 13-0 in league play. LRS dropped to 6-11 overall and 3-9 in the league.
