RITZVILLE - The Broncos boys basketball team pulled off a big win over the Colfax Bulldogs, handing them their third loss of the season in a 64-54 win, Friday, Jan. 26.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear Lind/Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington came to Gilson Gymnasium to play.
Senior Chase Galbreath's aggressive play set the tone early as he drove the lane and attacked the basket to score 11 of the Broncos 18 first quarter points. Adrik Jenkin scored 7 points for the Bulldogs.
At the end of the first quarter, Lind-Ritzville led 18-17.
In the second quarter, Nick Labes hit two, 3-point shots and Cooper Miller made two baskets to lead the Broncos on a 9-point run.
The Broncos outscored Colfax 18-12 in the quarter and increased their lead at intermission to 36-29.
Galbreath led the Broncos in scoring with 15 first half points. Seth Lustig led Colfax with 10 first half points.
Early in the third quarter Galbreath left the game with an ankle sprain.
In his absence, the Broncos put only 8 points on the scoreboard.
Colfax, having shooting woes of its own, was unable to reel in the Broncos, who maintained its 7-point advantage going into the fourth quarter, leading 44-37.
Galbreath re-entered the game with 5 minutes left, but it was the outside shooting of Lance Williamson, Jayce Kelly and Hayden Melcher that secured the 64-54 win for Lind-Ritzville.
Galbreath led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
"It was a good win," Galbreath said. "We had a lot of energy tonight, which we hope to carry into post season where we hope to make some noise."
Other major contributors for the Broncos were Kelly, Hunter Dinkins and Labes who scored 12, 10 and 6 points, respectively.
"It was a great bounce back game for us after one of our worst performances in our last game," Broncos Coach Dustan Arlt said. "That's Colfax's only second league loss of the year, so it should give us a lot of confidence."
Lustig led Colfax in scoring with 17 points. Jenkin and Carsen Gray each added 11 points.
"LRS is a tough basketball team who played really well tonight," Colfax Coach Reece Jenkin said. "They were super physical, and we had a tough time stopping Galbreath."
The win improved Lind-Ritzville's record to 7-5 in Northeast 2B league play. Colfax dropped to 10-3, second only to Davenport.
