Bronco boys top Kettle Falls, Reardan

Boys never trailed against Bulldogs

RITZVILLE — The Bronco boys basketball team added two wins to its record last week, topping Kettle Falls on Friday, Jan. 20, and Reardan on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

On the road at Kettle Falls, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington boys never trailed.

The Broncos (10-5, 6-4 in league) jumped out to a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, expanding their lead to 29-16 by halftime.

The third quarter was slower, with the Broncos posting only 3 points, but held the Bulldogs to 6, narrowing the margin by 3 points.

In the final stanza, the Broncos outscored the Bulldogs 15-12, for a final score of 47-34.

Jayce Kelly led all scorers with 18 points in the game for Lind-Ritzville.

Kettle Falls was paced by Zane Edwards with 15 points.

Other individual stats were not reported.

At home last Thursday, the Broncos held off a rallying Reardan (5-10, 3-7 in league) team for a 48-47 victory.

The Broncos closed out the first quarter with a 15-12 lead and took a 28-21 lead to the locker room at halftime.

The Screaming Eagles would mount a challenge in the second half.

The Broncos outpaced visiting Reardan 15-12 in the third quarter, but the Screaming Eagles dominated the fourth quarter, putting up 14 points while holding the Broncos to 5.

But the rally came up a point short and the Broncos took the win, 48-47.

Chase Galbreath paced all scorers with 18 points for the Broncos. Kelly added 17 points.

Other scorers for the Broncos included Hayden Melcher with 6 points, Nick Labes with 5 and Hunter Dinkins with 2.

This week, the Broncos were scheduled to host the Liberty (Spangle) Lancers on Tuesday night, Jan. 24. That game began after the newspaper went to press.

On Friday night, Colfax comes to town to challenge the Broncos. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The local boys follow up that game on the road Saturday at Asotin. Game time there is 6 p.m.
