Arrests made in gang-related shooting

Deputies looking for a third teenager

OTHELLO — A local man and two boys were released from custody Friday, Dec. 30, after being arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting.

Raphael Alexander Chavez-Hernandez, 22, is facing possible charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was initially held on $1 million bail, but released Friday, Dec. 30, due to the 72-hour charging requirement.

The boys were booked on charges of first-degree assault and second-degree assault; authorities have yet to release their names and ages. They were initially booked into juvenile detention on $500,000 bail each, but also released Dec. 30..

A third boy is being sought in the shooting.

Chavez-Hernandez and the boys are accused of shooting Freddy Gonzalez-Rodriguez, 20, in the neck on the night of Dec. 28.

Gonzalez-Rodriguez was initially transported to Othello Community Hospital before being transferred to another hospital for “specialized treatment,” the Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident is believed to be gang-related, court records show. A motive has yet to be reported.
