Colfax girls top Broncos, 72-45

COLFAX – The No. 1-ranked Colfax Bulldogs dominated the young Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrinton girls Dec. 17, downing the Broncos 72-45.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was able to keep hand-in-hand with Colfax throughout the first few minutes of the opening quarter, trailing 8-5 with 5:01 to go in the opening frame and 12-8 with 3:49 to go in the quarter.

Then the Bulldogs went on their run – going on a 6-0 run in 57 seconds to take an 18-8, double-digit lead over the Broncos with 2:52 left in the opening eight minutes.

Scoring would continue to come in abundance for Colfax, and the team outscored Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 30-12 in the remaining time in the first half; the Bulldogs went into halftime with a 48-20 lead.

Colfax played most of the second half with its reserve players, and the Broncos couldn’t cut into the lead – resulting in the Lady Bulldogs improving to 7-0 on the season.

“I’ve never been a coach that feels like we need to win by 50 or 60 points,” Holmes said regarding putting her reserves in. “That doesn’t benefit my kids. I want to play my bench if I can, because I need them to know that they’re important, they matter and I need them to build confidence in how they play. Because god forbid we ever have an injury. You can’t predict what tomorrow’s gonna bring and I need to know that my bench is ready to step on the floor. And if they never get minutes then they can’t do that.”

Colfax’s Brynn McGaughy led all scorers with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
