Basketball team heads to Liberty, Colfax

MEDICAL LAKE - The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington boys basketball team held Medical Lake nearly scoreless in the first half as the Broncos dunked the Cardinals, 69-14, in a nonleague boys basketball game Friday, Dec. 9.

The Cardinals (0-3) could only muster a single bucket in each of the first two quarters of play for a total of 5 points.

Meanwhile, the Broncos offense dominated the court, rolling up 41 points before the break.

The undefeated Broncos (3-0) scored more points in the first quarter, 20, than the hapless Cardinals did the entire game.

Lind-Ritzville added 21 points in the second quarter and 14 each in the third and fourth.

The Cardinals scored only 3 points in the first quarter and 2 in the second.

Medical Lake did a little better in the second half, scoring 5 points in the third and 4 in the fourth. But it wasn't nearly enough to close the massive gap.

Jayce Kelly led all scorers with 16 points, including four outside the arc. Chase Gablreath posted 12 points in the game as the second-highest scorer.

Ledger Kelly and Hunter Dinkins each added two treys; and Brock Kinch and Lance Williamson each had one.

Medical Lake's only 3-pointer was made by Kaleb Cain with about 50 seconds left in the first quarter.

Hayden Melcher put up 4 points, as did Zach Klein.

Dinkins had a total of 10 points on the night while Nick Labes had 5, Cooper Miller 4,

Williamson finished with 5 points and Kinch 3.

For the Cardinals, Tracen Tueller led scoring with 4 points, followed by Mavrick Rasmussen and Cain each with 3.

Caeden Barh-Crewdson had 2.

Neither team had any players foul out ; Medical Lake ended with 7 fouls and the Broncos had 6.

Other games

The win came only two days after the Broncos thumped the Asotin Panthers in a Northeast 2 B league matchup, 73-31, on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Individual statistics were not available.

In their season-opener, the Broncos traveled to Coulee City, where they topped the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors, 75-39, on Saturday, Dec. 3, in a nonleague game.

The Broncos scored 24 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second to take a 38-19 lead at the half.

They added to the margin in the third quarter, winning on the boards, 11-8, and then dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Warriors, 26-12.

The Warriors are 2-2 on the season.

This week, the Broncos were scheduled to head to Spangle to take on the 1-2 Liberty Lancers.

Tipoff was sent for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Results were not available at press time.

On Saturday, the local boys head to Colfax for a league game against the Bulldogs (2-1).

Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
