Teens arrested after drunken crime spree

OTHELLO – An early morning of allegedly stealing beer from multiple locations, gas and a car landed three boys in Martin Hall detention center.

Ricardo Ambrocio-Silva, 17; Johnny Alvarez, 15; and Juan Carlos Sontay-Baten, 13; were arrested Thursday, Nov. 17, and booked into the juvenile detention center after an alleged drunken crime spree.

Ambrocio-Silva was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and driver younger than 21 consuming alcohol or cannabis.

Alvarez was arrested for furnishing liquor to minors-possession, use; and second-degree rendering criminal assistance.

Sontay-Baten was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, minor in possession of alcohol and two counts of third-degree theft.

According to arrest records, are affiliated with Surenos gang, also known as 18th Street gang and East Side Born Evil.

The boys were arrested in a stolen Honda Civic following a traffic stop at 9:14 a.m. on South State Highway 24.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy Angel Valverde was on patrol at about 9:14 a.m. when he spotted a vehicle matching the description of a Honda Civic reported stolen from Othello and notified other law enforcement officers of his potential high-risk traffic stop.

Other law enforcement officers responded to help with the stop east of South Lucy Road, records show.

Ambrocio-Silva was the driver, records show. Alvarez was the front-seat passenger and Sontay-Baten was in the back seat. All three were allegedly intoxicated.

The traffic stop and arrest came after both Adams County deputies and Othello police had responded to theft of beer from multiple locations in the county and city earlier that morning, records show.

A search of the vehicle turned up 17 beer cans and bottles, records show. The beer cans and bottles matched those described as being stolen from three different locations.

According to an incident report, the fuel theft occurred at about 5:42 a.m. at Hawk Fuel,, 1298 S. First Ave.

The vehicle had been reported stolen by Nancy Baten-Chavez, Sontay-Baten’s mother, records show. And the beer thefts were reported from Hawk Fuel; the Waterhole, 3003 E. Main St.; and Bob’s Korner, 2098 W. Bench Road.
