Despite censure, Newhouse wins 4th District
SUNNYSIDE – Despite being censured by most Republican committees in the 4th Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Dan Newhouse has been re-elected.
Newhouse, R-Sunnyside, defeated Democratic challenger Doug White in the Nov. 8 general elections.
Newhouse is one 10 Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol protest.
As a result of his failure to support the president, Republican central committees across Central Washington voted to censure him.
But in the Nov. 8 general election, running as “prefers” Republican without party support, Newhouse received 136,380 votes (66.36%) compared to White, who received 64,562 votes (31.42%).
Newhouse led in all of the counties in the district, including Okanogan, Douglas, Grant, Yakima, Klickitat, Benton and parts of Franklin and Adams.
Newhouse’s strongest support was in Grant County, where he received 11,341 votes (73.83%) compared to White’s 3,652 votes (23.77%).
White had his best showing in Klickitat County, where he received 4,483 votes (40.63%). There, Newhouse had 6,441 votes (58.39%).
In Newhouse’s home county, Yakima County, the incumbent received 38,894 votes (63.34%); White received 20,572 votes (33.5%).
In Adams County, Newhouse received 1,333 votes (72.96%), compared to White’s 457 votes (25.01%).
