Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Rep. McMorris Rodgers easily outdistances Hill
SPOKANE – Incumbent Congress-woman Cathy McMorris Rodgers easily defeated her 5th Congressional District challenger in the Nov. 8 general election.
As of press time, McMorris Rodgers, R-Spokane, had amassed 168,708 votes (59.25%). She led every county in the district.
Meanwhile, Democratic challenger Natasha Hill of Spokane was a distant second with 115,391 votes (40.52%).
The two were vying to be the representative of Washington’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Asotin, Garfield, Columbia, Whitman, Spokane, Lincoln , Ferry, Pend Oreille, Stevens and portions of Franklin, Adams, Walla Walla and Spokane Counties.
Franklin County broke hardest for McMorris Rodgers with 2,270 votes (87.21%) compared to 333 votes (12.79%) for Hill.
McMorris Rodgers performed the worst in Whitman County, where she received 6,609 votes (56.25%), while Hill had 5,118 votes (43.56%).
In other returns, so far, by county:
• Adams – McMorris Rodgers, 1,704 votes (83.28%); Hill, 332 votes (16.23%)
• Asotin – McMorris Rodgers, 5,925 votes (67.09%); Hill, 2,885 votes (32.67%)
• Columbia – McMorris Rodgers, 1,649 votes (76.27%); Hill, 511 votes (23.64%)
• Ferry – McMorris Rodgers, 2,405 votes (71.71%); Hill, 938 votes (27.97%)
• Garfield – McMorris Rodgers, 1,027 votes (80.74%); Hill, 240 votes (18.87%)
• Lincoln – McMorris Rodgers, 4,631 votes (79.07%); Hill, 1,215 votes (20.74%)
• Pend Oreille – McMorris Rodgers, 4,744 votes (71.00%); Hill, 1,921 votes (28.75%)
• Spokane – McMorris Rodgers, 122,532 votes (56.27%); Hill, 94,697 votes (43.49%)
• Stevens – McMorris Rodgers, 8,034 votes (72.59%); Hill, 3,009 votes (27.19%)
• Walla Walla – McMorris Rodgers, 7,178 (63.04%); Hill, 4,192 (36.82%).
The official election results will be certified Nov. 29.
