Late-arriving ballots flip lead in county race

RITZVILLE — Twenty-two votes.

That’s the difference between the two candidates running for the Adams County Commissioner District No. 3 seat as of press time this weke.

After the initial count Nov. 8, incumbent Terry Thompson had a small lead.

But late-arriving ballots have flipped the outcome.

As of press time Tuesday, Miguel A. “Mike” Garza had 1,772 votes (49.65%. Incumbent Thompson had 1,750 votes (49.03%).

Garza has a 22-vote lead, but there may potentially be some late-arriving ballots that will have to be counted.

Garza trailed after the first count of ballots on election night.

At the end of the first day of county, Thompson led by nearly 100 votes. Thompas had 953 votes (51.93%) and Garza had 858 votes (46.76%) at the end of election day.

“I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for the opportunity to be involved in this race,” Garza said.

Official results will be certified Nov. 29.
